The J.L. Crowe High School was constructed in 1951 when the high school in downtown Trail became overcrowded. It hosted its first graduating class in June, 1952. The school was named after James Lloyd Crowe, an active member of the Board of Trustees for School District No. 11 (Trail) at the time. The ‘Crowe,’ as it is known, housed grades 10 to 12 and a Senior Matriculation class, sometimes called grade 13. When the Trail Jr. High School closed in 1983, grades 8 and 9 from that school were transferred to the Crowe. In 2010, a new J.L. Crowe Secondary School was built on the same site. In 2013, grades 10 to12 of the Rossland Secondary School were transferred to the Crowe. The school continues to serve the communities of Greater Trail with the grades 8 to 12 configuration.
