      This is probably what's going to happen. Within the next several
years, the Nelson, Trail, Rossland and Castlegar post offices as we
know them will close. Local mail will still be sorted and delivered,
but no "postal products" will be sold at the wickets. You will have to
buy stamps, money orders, meter tapes at privatized outlets. Post of-
fice boxes, which have already doubled in cost in the last year (now                                                                rO\i

$50),will cost even more to discourage private use. More green boxes
will spring up along the highways.

      Mail outside Nelson will go to Kelowna, Vancouver and maybe                                                                                   D

 Castlegar. And in time you will likely forget that big brick building

 like you will have forgotten that the passenger train ever stopped
 here, the CBC once owned a television station, the baby bonus che-

      Rural folk have always been the ones to supply the nation with
the resources which pay for the machinery to run the country. And
we are always the ones shortchanged for our effort. I'm not surprised

Victoria and North Van, for example, closed their post offices
without much of a squawk. Residents there are probably fully ap-
preciative of closer outlets. But when do we, the hewers of wood, get
