The Kootenay Lake Historical Society was formed in 1957 when the C.P.R. sold the S.S. Moyie sternwheel steamship to the then City of Kaslo (now a village). The ship became a community museum to which archival material and artifacts were donated. In 1988 it was decided that the ship should become a museum telling its own story. The Kootenay Lake Archives was formed from the archival material that had been donated to the Society. It is located in the basemen of the Kemball Memorial Building and collects information relating to Kaslo and the north Kootenay Lake area.
