The Ladybird was built in 1922 at Walton Boat Works in Nelson. Known as the 'Speed Queen of Kootenay Lake,' the Ladybird was the epitome of racing powerboats. After a Liberty aircraft engine was installed, she set a speed record in 1933 of sixty-eight miles (109 kilometers) per hour. The Ladybird was donated to the Nelson Museum in 1968 and was fully restored in the late 1980s.
