The Kelowna Sawmill dates from 1892 when pioneer Bernard Leguime moved his sawmill from Okanagan Mission to the shore of Okanagan Lake when he created a settlement, which became Kelowna. In early 1900 he sold the sawmill to David Lloyd-Jones who had several business partners and was in competition with S.M. Simpson until 1942, when Simpson purchased the Kelowna Sawmill. The sawmill continued to operate until it was destroyed by fire in 1944. Simpson retained the corporate name of Kelowna Sawmill, which operated as the retail division of S.M. Simpson Ltd. until 1956.
