First Road Trip of 2019!

Chris and Rhiannon hit the road for our first trip of the year last Wednesday, February 20! We picked up materials from our new partners at Westbank Museum and dropped off materials at Peachland Museum.

It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon and the spectacular scenery made for a very enjoyable drive. We arrived at Westbank Museum and took the opportunity to look at some of the museum’s displays. Westbank Museum features some fascinating and educational materials, including a display about local agricultural history and a highly detailed replica sawmill!

It was wonderful to meet Darci, our Westbank Museum contact. We are excited to begin digitizing Westbank’s collection of photos documenting the construction of the old Okanagan Lake Bridge! We hope to make them available soon on our repository.

After leaving Westbank Museum, we made our way to Peachland Museum to drop off some materials that we had finished digitizing. You can now view these maps, student photographs, voter lists, and a digital version of The Chronicles of Peachland on our repository at https://doh.arcabc.ca/islandora/object/peach%3Aroot. Our Peachland contact, Jeff, very kindly allowed us to tour the upstairs floor of the museum, which is currently closed as Central Okanagan Railway Company members update the museum’s Model Train Layout. We were impressed by their hard work and attention to detail on this project, and we look forward to visiting again to see the completed updates!

We look forward to continuing to work with our partners at Westbank and Peachland Museums, and we hope to have many opportunities to visit them again.
