Edward Beatty was born in Green Lake, Saskatchewan on February 15, 1908 and moved to Chase in 1934. He worked for the Forest Service, built roads and was a merchant with his brother Ronald in the former Oscar Lynn General Store in Chase, later Beatty's Department Store. He died in Chase on April 26, 2001. Beatty describes the flood of 1935, early community development and the establishment of recreation facilities in the area.
