The B.C. Fruit Growers' Association (BCFGA) traces its origins back to 1889 when efforts to bring the horticulturalists of the province together to exchange ideas and knowledge and to raise standards in growing and marketing culminated in a founding meeting. The Association's original objective was to “encourage the cultivation of fruits, vegetables and flowers, and pursuits pertaining to horticulture, the promotion of bee culture, holding of exhibitions and collecting information regarding the different varieties of fruit best adapted for cultivation in this Province.” Since its founding the BCFGA has served as an industry association representing B.C. fruit growers' interests through initiatives that include lobbying governments for positive change to risk management programs such as crop insurance and the Net Income Stabilization Program and providing services and products to growers.
