Beyond what is now the end of Campbell Avenue. On July 23, 1891 it produced the first lead bullion ever drawn from any smelter in B.C. The ore had come from the Lanark mine at Illecillewaet. A C.P.R. spur line was built to the smelter and to the wharf below it, Ore was not plentiful enough, and they were unable to get river bank protection. Bit by bit the land fell into the river. Finally the unprotected smelter collapsed into the Columbia on September 3, 1898. See Review Special Edition of June 19, 1940.
