Emma Roberts was born in Cornwall, England in 1883 and married William Henry Roberts with whom she had two daughters - Cherry and Aileen. The family moved to Canada in 1910, settling in Revelstoke by 1914 where W.H. Roberts worked for the C.P.R. Emma and Roberts later divorced and she and her daughters moved to North Vancouver in 1922. Emma married John Percy Hardy in 1929 and remained in North Vancouver until her death in 1971. While in Revelstoke, Emma Roberts took up photography. Although primarily a hobby, she did sell some of her photographs for postcards. She and her daughters hiked extensively on Mount Revelstoke and in surrounding areas and her photography reflected this interest. Her photographs also included local buildings, street scenes and events, including ski competitions. The majority of the photographs were taken between 1914 and 1922.
