Interview with W.R. Ritchie, a long-time resident of the Similkameen Valley. Ritchie discusses getting bronchitis in Spring 1944, working in a cannery in Kelowna and his relationship with Mary Kelly. He discusses the opening of the cannery and working at the post office in town. Ritchie describes Summerland and its previous status as an indigenous reservation. He also discusses running a sawmill at Shuswap Lake at 1935 and working at Romlyville Coal Mine, before moving back to Shuswap to work at the powerhouse, and the recruitment of a steam engineer. He also discusses his marriage in 1945 and his interactions with Chinese Canadians, many of whom were tree planters.
