A silent film documenting Columbia Cellulose (Celgar) employees and boats driving logs down the Columbia River, ca. late 1960s. Until the construction of dams associated with the Columbia River Treaty in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Celgar used the river to transport lumber from the Big Bend region south along the Columbia River and down the Arrow Lakes to its pulp mill west of Castlegar—the “river drive”. The film proceeds north from Revelstoke (taking in the brand-new Revelstoke Bridge across the Columbia River) along the Columbia River to Boat Encampment and the future site of the Mica Dam. Film by Celgar employee Ichiro Shiino.
